Congress 2023: outcomes and voting
Hi Pirates and friends,
Our National Congress was on the weekend! A huge thanks to all who attended, and to our two special guests.
Later today, full members of the party will receive two emails with login details for our voting system — more on that below.
We have new and returning members *elected:*
* Welcome to Adam Woodings, who steps up to the Deputy Presidency!
* Miles, Alex, John, and David continue in our roles on the National
Council (President, Secretary, Treasurer and Councillor, respectively).
* Sean continues on the Dispute Resolution Committee.
* This also means we have several casual vacancies.
All of the proceedings at Congress were livestreamed <https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjUhgOlCPiN6a57McbH6GQrbwVqWZwk4V> and *minuted* <https://pirateparty.org.au/wiki/Pirate_Congress_2023/Minutes>. You can also watch just the interviews with our special guests Cr. Bridgid O'Brien (Yarra City Council) <https://youtu.be/U3qCSmIccdc> and Sven Clements (Pirate Party Luxembourg). <https://youtu.be/n932HYHUmzw>

Member Voting
It's a democracy, so everyone gets a vote! Again, full members of the party will receive two emails later today — look out for emails from |iewg AT pirateparty.org.au|. You'll get a link to the elections page, a credential, and a password. You'll need the credential to get into the system, and the password (plus your email address) to finalise casting your vote.
There are *five items* <https://pirateparty.org.au/wiki/Pirate_Congress_2023/Motions> up for member ratification: three Constitutional Amendment Proposals, one Formal Motion, and one Policy Motion.
* CAP-1 reduces the minimum National Council quorum to three members,
down from five.
* CAP-2 opens up party membership to people who are in similar parties
that aren't going for AEC registration
* CAP-3 shifts the requirement to be on the Australian electoral roll
to Full members only
* FM-1 proposes that we apply to re-join Pirate Parties International
about 6 months from now
* PM-1 overhauls our economic policy, in particular shifting from a
"basic income" to a "citizen's dividend".
There was a second policy motion which did not receive enough support at Congress to proceed to a member vote. It's still on the party wiki, of course.

Leadership opportunities
In the Pirate Party we have a range of opportunities to volunteer right now:
* We have National Council vacancies for two Councillors, Deputy
Treasurer and Deputy Secretary.
* We have vacancies for a Policy Development Officer and a
Communications Officer.
* We have work to be done as a member of the Foreign & International
Relations Committee and on the Policy Development Committee.
* Email nationalcouncil AT pirateparty.org.au
<mailto:nationalcouncil AT pirateparty.org.au> if any of these sound
interesting!
In Fusion, there's a number of volunteer roles open too: comms committee (mailouts, social media), policy development (affordable housing), campaigns committee (strategy and campaign design), engagement committee (new member orientations, membership officer, internal party outreach).
Meanwhile, Fusion's AGM will be in October or November if you'd like to step up at the top level.
Email exec AT fusionparty.org.au <mailto:exec AT fusionparty.org.au> if any of these sound interesting!
