Hi everybody,
thank you very much for your participation in our operation concerning the
nomination of Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden for the Nobel Peace Prize!
Overall I consider the operation as successfull but in a qualified sense.
Deliverables:
- Manning and Snowden were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by MPs from PP-
SE and PP-IS
- 13 out of 31 pirate partys went public with a press release (42%)
- there was a moderate press echo (RT.com, numerama.com and Pirate Times)
Please find a detailed overview here (and eventually add your corrections):
https://prism.titanpad.com/nobelprize-press
We finally have accompolished the tasks that we had taken on. But the
effect in the media could have been better. One reason why it was only
moderate
is in my eyes that we were too late. One week before the deadline the Green
party and the Left party in Germany and Norway allready went public with
their nominations:
-

Therefore our press release did not find a big echo in the press (in Germany)
because they had allready reported about Snowdens nomination and Manning is
out of their focus unfortunately. Do not get me wrong here: I think that it
was quite the right decision to nominate both Manning and Snowden because
that
set us apart from those other partys maybe only riding the NSA-scandal wave
because of media attention and maybe not really being interested in
whistleblowing at all.
So the suggestion which came from PP-IS was good. Anyways the timing was bad
as this suggestion came one week before the deadline when we had allready an
agreed text for the nomination of Snowden in place. Changing that text to fit
both whistleblowers cost us several days because the text had to be reviewd
again by PP-SE and PP-IS and made us loose the lead. But anyways it was a
good
starting point. At least you have to start somewhere. Also it was a pleasure
to work together with so many pirates all from different countries and even
someone from Australia and from the US donated some time to help with the
text.
For our next operations during the european election campaign we must better
coordinate and fine tune our actions. To achieve this we have to maintain
close
contact between the partys, define reference persons in every party for
special
subjects like TTIP, netneutrality and NSA scandal and build a strong social
network.
To achieve this I am planning a workshop on "privacy and civil rights
campaigning after Snowden" on saturday the 22nd of march at the Young Pirates
Europs conference from 10:00h - 12:00h (no, not at 9:00h).

I would like to invite everybody who ist interested in transnational
campaigning during the EU elections. I encourage you to prepare a short
summary of topics and operations you like to do, campaigning materials that
you are working on and so on.
I have put up a PAD here:
https://prism.titanpad.com/eucampagning
Also you should sign on the PP-Ops mailinglist and join the #PPEU irc chat
channel on http://www.pirateirc.net/, which is supposed to be the central
backbone for all transnational operations during the elections.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me. Until sunday
eveniing
the 23nd I will attend the PPEU conference in Brussels and will be reachable
mostly on jabber, twitter and by the following mobile number: +32483510602.
Regards
Jens
