Dear Henrik,
thanks for the information. Does this mean that the Board did approve the rest of the CEEP?
Best regards,
Martina

CC: styrelsen AT lists.pirateweb.net; Piratpartiets partiledning <ledningen AT piratpartiet.se>;Dear friends,
The board of the swedish pirate party has decided to veto the following two parts of the Common European Election Programme for Pirate Parties:
1) "Changes to EU primary legislation (e.g. a treaty) must only come into effect if a majority of EU citizens approve the changes in a simultaneous vote across the EU, in addition to the current requirement of agreement at the governmental level. The EU executive must see to it that these votes can be conducted even on short notice."
This is an extremely far reaching statement, that not only major changes but any minor technical change has to be taken by a referendum. It has no support in the policy-decisions taken by our general assembly.
2) ”Better direct citizen participationPIRATES strive for a common standard for citizen initiatives at local, regional, national and European levels. To empower citizens, we want citizen initiatives that can modify constitutions, laws, etc. to always be followed by a referendum if not approved by the legislature.”
This has no support in the policies taken by our general assembly.
Yours,/Henrik Brändén,deputy party leader, Swedish Pirate Party
