Hi Zbigniew and hi all.
I would rather remove the paragraph altogether, since it could let the reader think that patents might actually be a good idea ("generally seen as a success story"):

Even if the patenting of industrial goods in the past is generally seen as a success story (neither provable nor refutable), the social and economic conditions of invention in the post-industrial and globalized society have fundamentally changed by now.

"Even if the patenting of industrial goods in the past is generally
seenas a success story (neither provable nor refutable), the social
and economic conditions of invention in the post-industrial and
globalized society have fundamentally changed by now."

After this I would add

"In many fields the growth of the number of granted patents made
checking existing patents when building new inventions impractical and
turned innovative business into a game of ambushes where overbroad,
cryptic and often trivial patents are used to attack competition
instead of extending the common knowledge by public disclosure."

Further down:

"Economic success in the information society is no longer dependent on
technological inventions, but on the development of knowledge and
information."

This looks like a false dichotomy, and generally doubtful.
